remember when i told you i was gonna decorate my wall à la gossip girl? well, i did it. and i know how you're not supposed to praise yourself, but it really looks amazing. totally worth the hours i put in. since i kinda changed/improved some of the steps i read in other tutorials, i'm gonna share with you how exactly i created my masterpiece.

vor ein paar tagen hatte ich ja angekündigt, eine wanddeko à la gossip girl zu basteln. und ich hab's wirklich durchgezogen. auch wenn eigenlob stinkt muss ich zugeben, dass es wirklich schön geworden ist. somit haben sich die ganzen stunden auch ausgezahlt. weil ich ein paar der anweisungen aus anderen tutorials verändert/verbessert habe, möchte ich euch erklären, wie genau ich mein kunstwerk zusammengebastelt habe.

so, first of all, you gotta find some nice butterfly templates. i just googled 'butterfly printable' and stumbled upon this amazing one. then i changed the sizes of the individual butterflies, my tallest one was 12cm, the smallest one about 5cm. print & cut them out. // als erstes müsst ihr verschieden große schmetterlings-schablonen finden. ich habe einfach 'butterfly printable' gegoogelt und dabei diese tolle vorlage gefunden. bei word dann einfach die größe der einzelnen schmetterlinge ändern und drucken. mein größter war 12cm, der kleinste um die 5cm groß.

make sure you cut them out neatly, they're gonna be the role model for all the other ones. then you've gotta choose the colors for your masterpiece. i chose dark grey and a beige-y tone. // am besten wirklich ordentlich ausschneiden, weil sie ja als ausgangs-schablone für alle andren dienen. dann müsst ihr die farben für euer kunstwerk aussuchen. ich habe dunkelgrau und einen helleren beigeton genommen.

make one cardboard template out of the paper one for each individual size. this is were the mass production begins. i made about 30 butterflies of each size and therefore ended up with 120 in total. // jetzt müsst ihr aus den papiervorlagen für jede größe eine pappvorlage ausschneiden. danach folgt die massenproduktion. ich habe etwa 30 pro größe gemacht, also insgesamt 120 schmetterlinge.

and then you just gotta cut them out. at one point, my fingers felt like they were broken, so don't worry when you might experience similar unpleasantness. // dann einfach alle ausschneiden. nicht wundern, wenn euch irgendwann die finger wehtun, meine haben sich kurzzeitig fast wie gebrochen angefühlt.

next step: folding. this will make them three-dimensional. i found it easier using a triangle, the folding line is nice and straight and the wings stand up perfectly. // nächster schritt: falten. das macht die kleinen flieger dreidimensional. ich fand es mit geodreieck einfach, dann wird die faltlinie schön gerade und die flügel stehen perfekt hoch.

depending on the size of your wall and the final result, you now have to choose a round object that you'll use to draw the circle you'll start with onto the wall. // je nach dem, wie groß eure wand und damit am ende das kunstwerk sein soll, müsst ihr jetzt irgendeinen runden gegenstand nehmen und den anfangskreis an die wand zeichnen.

then you can start sticking your butterflies onto the wall. i used pre-cut glue strips called 'tesa tack', which i stuck to the not-so-nice side of the butterflies that's got the pencil on it. just start with the circle and work your way to the outer ones. in order to get the right angle, just imagine every butterfly was stuck to a bigger circle surrounding the one you drew at the beginning. // dann könnt ihr anfangen, die schmetterlinge an die wand zu kleben. ich habe dazu 'tesa tack' benutzt, das lässt sich auch wieder ablösen. einfach auf die unschöne bleistiftseite kleben und dann mit dem aufgezeichneten kreis beginnen. damit das ganze am ende ordentlich aussieht, einfach vorstellen, dass alle äußeren schmetterlinge auch auf kreisbahnen liegen.

and then you just gotta lay back, relax and enjoy the view. // danach könnt ihr euch entspannt zurücklehnen und den anblick genießen.
